Hiking in Korea is a favorite pastime and here in Jeonju there are plenty of places to hike and temples to see! Dong-Gosa is one of the smaller temples in South Korea but it’s still really striking!

If you want some outdoor recreation ideas.. try hiking! Hiking in South Korea will definitely keep you fit AND give you amazing views while you’re at it!

“Donggosa”, is well known for the views you can get overlooking Jeonju. Many locals visit the temple for night views and also sunset views. Haven’t done that yet but I will at some point! I discovered when we got to the temple that you can indeed drive up there! However, it is beneficial, health-wise and more interesting to do it the hard way! Well, if your fit it’s probably not that difficult a hike but I’m new to hiking so yeah… it was definitely hard for me!

Donggosa temple is over one thousand years old! Founded by a prince who later became a Buddhist monk, it was destroyed during the Japanese invasion during the 16th century but has been renovated since.

A large white statue of Maitreya, the future Buddha sits near the top of the mountain. Maitreya is a bodhisattva of whom it is said, will appear on Earth in the future, achieve complete enlightenment, and teach the pure dharma. According to scriptures, Maitreya will be a successor to the present Buddha. I didn’t get this far up the mountain… this time! I ALWAYS have to go back to each place I visit because there’s so much to take in! And to get better pictures!
